Vented Hood - Feasible or bad idea?
After searching and reading various posts about trying to reduce underhood temperatures and discussions about CF hoods, fiberglass hoods, vented hoods and a lot of group buys regarding custom hoods that never happened, has anyone ever considered just hacking up their own hood.
Obviously, the most cost efficient way to do this would probably be at a time when one is planning to repaint their front hood anyway.
felonious monk from bimmerforums produced the air flow diagram below
Has anyone ever thought about cutting a section of their hood out and just placing a mesh screen in place of the cut out section, similar to the M3 GTR hood, to help ventilate heat out the engine bay?
Any thoughts on this?

Where did the hood in the photo come from? Looks a little extreme

As I was reading posts, I was saving pictures for reference, so I can't remember what post or website had that, but it's basically a replacement hood that is modeled after the M3 GTR

I always wondered why the gills weren't functional. I wonder if you could cut out the hood that's underneath them.
