 HP upgrade for 2006

Looks like a cold air intake system for my 2002 3.0 Z gives me the biggest bang for the buck. Looked at the Dinan and it got me thinking about price vs. design/materials/install. Here's the question, has anyone tried to modify their existing air intake system
to get a hp boost? I did a search and couldn't find anything.

I have the same car and asked the same questions. There are no "cheap" upgrades for HP for the 3.0 IMO. Chips, CAI, pulleys and lightweight flywheels all help, but have their upsides and costs relative to what they produce. I would also not suggest fabricating a CAI nor do I think the minimal power increase is worth $300-500 if you go Dinan. Stick with suspension mods until you can go FI.

On my Z4, I had my FI reprogrammed by Powership with no other modifications. I've found the throttle to be more responsive and I have faster access to power. I am not sure of any HP increase, however they do claim a 14 HP increase in the top end with 93 oct. gas.

I too have looked for modifications for the Z4. The conclusion I've come to is this, FI reprogramming, cold air intake and exhaust. Only I'm also wondering about the benefits vs cost.

I found interesting that in the last issue of Roundel, they featured an article on the Z4 with Dinan modifications and there really wasn't as much done to the Z4 as I've seen on other BMW's with Dinan modifcations. The Dinan package, if my memory serves me, was cold-air intake, exhaust, reprogramming, beefed up brakes, suspension, tires and wheels.

I'm toying with the idea that my winter project will be to install a cold-air intake and and exhaust. Then I need to get the ICU reprogrammed. If I do this, I'll let you know the result.

When I used the term "FI", I was referencing forced induction as in supercharger, not chipping. I sense that Powerchip, Conforti Shark, and the others offer some relief in the problems concering drive by wire while removing rev limiter and speed limiter with some minimal boost in the torque curve, but there is little documentation confirming significant HP boosts. To each his own. Obviously, FI costs several thousand while the bolt on mods you reference each only cost a few hundred.

All I can do is comment on the 2.8 seeing that it what I have. Being that my car is out of warranty and the overpricing of Dinnan I did a little bit of investigating and went another route. Phase 3 download, carbon fiber ram air intake, exhaust and a few more that were more involved. That don't really apply here. The first three do. I first installed intake and exhaust. Then brought my car in to a local german mech friend. He intern takes your info from software emails it to miami they remap it to your car. which is custom to your car and your mods. Unlike preset like conforti and others. I noticed a substantial diff. driving. I have done some other more expensive mods. before I put it dyno though so I cannot give you accurate hp gains. But I will say it did make a substantial diff from stock with just those three mods in the overall feel of the car.

I've thought of that too but, you're right, that's a lot of money.
