My 2000 z3 2.3 has recently had an issue with shifting. It's an automatic transmission. When I accelerate quickly (ie- when merging onto a freeway) the transmission fails to shift and I will end up going 45-50mph with 4.5 rpm. To get the car to shift I have to decelerate to about 35-40mph and it will finally shift (I suppose I could also use the steptronic). Any ideas what this could be? /newbie

Interesting, because I noticed shifting on my 2001 3.0i steptronic was very sluggish last night on my way home from work. I attributed it to the cold conditions outside. It does have me a little concerned.

I wonder if the transmission fluid could have anything to do with it? Although I think that would only make shifting rougher...
How many miles are on the car? Never hurts to change the tranny fluid. Mine had 50k miles and shifted pretty rough. For some reason the level was really low?! Changing the tranny fluid made shifting noticeably smoother... Mine is manual though...
