 Oil strainers

Our S54 engines according to the parts data supposedly have the oil strainers covering the holes of no return. Know of no S54 Z3's that have them.
Jay Lilley says that the M3-S54's do.
The new strainer part number is locked for production only.
Have know idea if they will fit our heads but it looks like they will.

What are they trying to strain? The openings seem quite large?

Stray shims that get dropped during adjustment, I assume. Or any tools or bits you happen to drop during the job.

Do they look like they are just friction-fit? Do they snap in or get secured somehow?

Don't know. The parts data shows them being in our cars. They look like they will fit the opening. There are tabs in the middle of the strainer that looks like it snaps on to something. The tabs taper in toward the opening. Would have to see a M3 with them in place. I didn't try them when I did the valve adjust check since at the time didn't know they were on the M3.

I'll order some, but it's going to be another 5 years before I am due for my first check and adjust. Maybe longer.
