On my Z4 at 7500 I decided to rotate my tires. I did not know that the OEM RFT's were directional. So, as Murphy's Law would have it, I ran then totally opposite for 5000. I found out this afternoon when I was putting on my new winter tires I bought. When I took my OEM tires down I noticed an arrow in the wrong direction and I saw thw word "Rotation" and I said to my self OMG, WTF!!
Anyhow, damage done. I have my new winter tires on going in the right direction. Now my question is that I've heard somewhere that running directional tires in the wrong direction for a period of time completely screws up the tire and that I need to replace my tires. Any truths to this? Thanks.

Running them in the wrong direction only affects performance and wear. You haven't done any damage to them.

really, they are directional? I just checked both sets of re50's that I have in the garage & neither indicate that they are directional. I was under the impression that all z4s, regardless of wheel size, recieved potenza re50a's... are you sure they are directional? otherwise i must be missing something...

If I remember correctly, the directionality is most relevant for water evacuation. I'm sure that some of your tread blocks may show so signs of skuffing, but I wouldn't worry about it. The worst that will happen is you'll get less tread life than anticipated. But the average tread life on our cars sucks anyhow. So go have a beer and relax.

Also, I noticed that on every tire there is a yellow mark. I assume this is to remind the person installing the tires that these tires are directional.
