Does my 2000 2.8 have a transponder key? Long story short, my wife's car was bought used & came w/ 1 key. I'd like to get another. I have an aftermarket alarm w/ two remotes, so I'm wondering if I can just get a valet key cut. Looking to get a cheap spare.

BIG pain in the ass. I found out the hard way that the only key options are through the dealer. They do have a master key without the transponder. I got one for about $35 through BMW.

They all do. Which key do you have? You can order any of the four keys from your dealer.

Illuminated master key (black) $50.50 retail

Non illuminated master key (black) $40.75 retail

Valet key (grey) $33.75 retail

Plastic wallet key $36.25 retail
