Oops, there goes my lighted shift knob :(...
The other night I was on my way back from the driving range and the hill up from the canyon where the range is was deserted. I did a pretty hard 1-2 shift, and POP. Off came my shift knob. I've heard of this problem many times so I wasn't totally surprised, but that's not the bad news...
...since it was dark and I was going up a hill, I immediately jammed the knob back on the shift lever so that I could get into gear and continue up the hill. Bad idea. One of the wires for the light got pinched between the knob's plastic inner sleve and the metal of the shift lever and cut itself nicely off...
So now I have about 1/2" of stripped wire sticking out the bottom of the knob on one side. The other wire is fine. However, seeing as I only have 1/2" and it's already stripped (no lead to work with), I'm not sure if it's solderable. I was thinking solder the two ends together and cover them with some heatshrink, but then that heatshrink is going to be what goes from the knob to under the shift boot collar, and it's noticeably bulkier than the stock wire -- so you might see it a bit. Don't ask, I'm a perfectionist.
Anyways, I'm not sure what to do now...upgrade the knob, replace it with a stock knob, or what? Does LeatherZ take trade-ins? :P

Oh, and dont shift so hard.

It's already unclipped and out of the car, sitting on my bench...
And the main problem is, how can I lift the leather cover off far enough to splice a piece of wire on that will eventually hide the splice under the leather cover?

But because I am cheap. and the real reason. the wife said no more new toys, would you like a new one, and sale the old one to me, just thought I'd ask She didn't say anything about a used part, But I would tell her about it, shes the best thing that happened to and for me Mike T
