Check Engine Light came on after my startup this AM. The car started strong after the evening cold but then coughed & dies after 30 seconds.
No problems to restart. Stayed on all day.
Yes, I did refuel the previosu night but I did retighten the fuel cap. CEL still was on all day.
I drove around & engine seems like it was idling rough @ stops. But in gear & moving it seems normal.
Went home to un-Shark the car for dealer to run OBD check this week.
The darn CEL went out!
What are the possible causes? TIA

Idle problems are normally a vacume leak or fuel supply issue. If it's just at startup, could also be the make up air system.
edit: Could also be a sensor problem, sharking makes proper sensor operation critical. A failing MAF or O2 sensor could flip out the ECU

Also, do you think that after I unsharked it last night, the CEL went away. Will the diagnostics tool still be able to detect the possible problems with the CEL out?

I wouldn't think unsharking would have anything to do with it either.

That's what somebody once told me when my light came on because of a loose gas cap...

i had the light come on when my o2 sensor went bad in the z4 also the loose gas cap of course- but with this my service advisor told me that it may take till the next fill up to clear the light...
ironically though I've forgotten to even screw in the gas cap (doh!) and have driven off- on neither occassion in the z4 has the check engine light nor the loose gas cap light appeared...
