I was talking with a rep from BMW USA today just getting some general info on options that came on Z3s and on my '01 Z3 3.0i roadster in particular. The only thing that really puzzled me was his reference to the spec sheet on my car as having the chrome mirror cap option. He indicated that the top part of the outside rear view mirror was chrome. I said I had seen many pics of Z3's and had never seen that on any of them and mine certainly did not have that now although, I suppose the original owner could have removed it. He also was being completely serious and not joking so I have no idea. Does anyone here know what this fellow was referring to?  |

The rear view mirror had an outer chrome ring trim around it. To my understanding, this started with the 2001 vehicles and only on the M equipped vehicles. I don't think it was available on the Z3 3.0 so it's strange that it should appear on your spec sheet because it really shouldn't have been equipped with one (to my knowledge).

Can you provide a link to a pic that shows this option? Thanks,

Our Z3 proctologist at HC '03. My mirror is the same. Just a chrome ring around the edge, nothing special.

All the 01 Ms have that mirror. Its smaller than the standard Z3 mirror, so some people dont like it.

ohhhh! The INTERIOR rear view mirror!
Interesting response I've gotten on another Z3 board though. 2 other Z3 (non M) owners had the chrome capped mirrors listed in their option spec sheets and are in the same position as me. Normal, non chromed exterior and interior mirrors. So that part is still a mystery.
