 Your 1st BMW Experience, is this typical.

I should be picking up my 1st BMW, a CPO 03 325CI AW any day now, unless their finance people don't like me or something.

Just some observations;

I come from a small rural town, 2 hours from the nearest large city where the BMW dealership I chose happens to be. They had the car I wanted for a reasonable price.

I must be from another planet.

These guys were just a little too scrubbed, polished, professional, and curt for me (I enjoy contact with others, and socializing especially in a business environment). The receptionist seemed to be preoccupied with some other minor thing than to welcome me to the delaership, I had to approach her. The finance guy could not talk fast enough, and was evasive when I wanted to peruse the terms, and conditions of the contract, like it was a waste of his time. I felt like I was someone he wanted to process (antiseptically of course) as quick as possible and then move on to the next sucker. These words would not describe them; warm and earthy. Maybe these words would; cold, aloof, sterile? There was no connection.

Neither the salesman (consultant in their terms) or the finance guy seemed to want to sell me on the features of the car and show me how great BMW's engineering is. They figure the car is already sold when it enters their dealership. I figured these guys would be proud of their machines, and wouldn't hesitate to show them off.

Maybe they should recuit some small town domestic auto sales good old boys for individuals like me. Maybe someone that keeps some low key sports paraphenalia scattered around.

Once I signed the paperwork I could not get out of the place fast enough, I am not looking forward to interacting with any of the staff when I return, just driving the car home.

When I get home I am going to tell my wife to shoot me if the ultimate owning experience starts to change who I am.

Have a nice day.

SOunds like you got a dealership full of drones that think they're better than you because of what they sell. The closest dealership to me has a very friendly staff that's as likely to just chat with you as they are to talk about what you can afford to drive home that day. Owning a BMW shouldn't change who you are, but it most likely change who people think you are. Suddenly they think you're making twice as much money as you really are. You'll probably get no end of the "we're paying you too much" jokes at work if there aren't several other "premium" brand cars there. Nevermind that you probably payed less for your E46 than they did for their Honda minivan, BMW = expensive no matter what to most people.

That is the exact opposite of my experience (and I bought the same car!) I found the CA and sales manager to be quite friendly and approachable. In fact, our CA wouldn't shut up about the cars features throughout our test drive (and then again at delivery). The business manager on the other hand was a jerk (but probably because we wouldn't buy any of his "accessories" and we weren't going to finance anything).

However, what you described was consistent with my experience at several Toronto Mercedes Benz dealerships (which was a major influence on our decision NOT to get another Benz).

It's the dealer. Not all dealerships are this way........its usually the ones that have easy sales and are in urban areas.

That sounds exactly like my experience!

...at a local Toyota dealership.

Any dealer can employ jerks. They don't make the cars here, just sell 'em.

Hope you enjoy your car, I sure do.
