Ron,

Do you have any experience with steering rack adjustment/pre-load or overhaul?

I think that the rack and pinion gear are not meshing correctly, with gearlash exceeding limits.

I slightly snugged the rack dampner today, and that made the situation significantly more apparent. I need to get the gears into better mesh.

Any info would be appreciated!

Group 32 (steering) is not on the construction group repair manual ufiche.

The TIS says to mark the adjuster when taking it apart and then going back to those marks on install.

Thanks.

I looked in the TIS, and I didn't even find what you had. I need to back off on the dampner before I drive it again...

Defenitely wasn't the adjustment I needed.

Does the standard E36 rack fit the Z3s? The reason I ask si Zionsville has a 2.7 turn lock to lock rack for retrofit into E30s, but it is basically an E36 raqck with some parts to fit it to the E30.

We just installed a 3.0 turn rack to a friends E30 this past weekend.
