 M Roadster Prototype 2001?

Hey, I saw this on ebay while looking around, what do you guys think, real or some pieced together car? It says it's a one off, but the carbon fiber cluster overlay is the same type you can buy on ebay for 24.95. I'm a little skeptical.

Very interesting. He lists it as a 2001, which would be stupid, there would be no need for a prototype at that point. The year it's categorized as is 1998, which makes more sense.

It definitely has the euro motor, and the dash cluster is a bit different -- for example, the M logo in the middle like on an E36 M3 (but higher up).

Lots of tacky crap on it: alpinestars sticker, the junk in the trunk, and so on. Interesting that it has a different front bumper, but that would hold up to his story...

Strange indeed. It's something, but who knows if it's official or just a salvage job someone put together.

That VIN comes back as "CK93 Z3 ROADSTER Z3 M3.2 S52 USA L N 1998/04".

ALL S50B32 powered M Roadsters were built in the US, because ALL Z3s were built in the US.

Early on, some of these cars were moved into race teams to use as race cars. I have a friend here that had a car exactly like this one that was originally obtained to use in his race team. At that time, in 1999, it was the only way these cars could be legally kept in the US. When he got it, the car had been wrecked and required extensive rebuilding by a local body shop. The engine and tranny were in great shape. There's no way to know for sure, but it was an Evergreen roadster just like this one, and could be the same one. It could also be a twin.

My 2 cents.

Id be very skeptical unless there was some documentation.

Iam sure there would be some sort of bill of sale from BMW or PTG if it were genuine.
