 BMW Dealer Attitude

BMW Dealer Attitude.

I think that most BMW have a attitude and the way the treat the customer is poor.

I purchased a BMW in July and look at four dealerships.

I live on Long Island and the closest dealer is in Southampton. When I went their, I got attitude. The dealer took me for a very quick test drive, he quoted a high price and I got the general feeling that he was trying to rip me off!

I purchase my BMW in Huntington 30 plus miles away from my home because I got the feeling that this Dealer cared.

It seems that generally BMW dealers have attitude and want to take you for every penny!

The real question is why does BMW America allow this? Maybe they think that dealers with attitude add to the allure of the brand?

Most dealers in general are like that, BMW included. I would rather go to a dealer 50 miles away that goes the extra mile and treats you with respect, rather than the one 5 minutes away, where they treat you like crap.

Don't get hung up on dealers.

Focus on price. At the end of the day, that is all that matters. Sales folks come and go. Commissions on new cars are low.

For the last several years, I don't even go to dealerships until I pick up the car. I buy over the internet. If a dealer does not have an internet group I move on.

Usually in a few hours, I can get mutiple quotes and prices negotiated without even going to the dealer.

My exact feelings.. When my 325i was purchased, I went to a dealer about 5 min away ( around 5 miles from my house), they seemed good at first, but after the purchase, my rep would not return any of my calls, did not send me the info to track my car, lied to me about the arrival date of my car (this was important because I planned to return my leased car in accordance with the arrival of the new car), and informed me last minute that he was moving to a different dealership (saab I believe) and was sorry about the lack of communication (because he had to pack). He referred me to a different rep who did not know where the car that I ordered was. I canceled, went to a dealer 15~20 miles away, saved $2000 more than the first dealer and had a real estimate on the delivery of the car, received the info to track, etc. etc.. I could not be more pleased by the service and attitude of the second dealership. And you know what? In the future, that's where I will be going, if the other reps are as good as the one I dealt with (my rep eventually left to pursue a higher position at an audi dealership).

BMW dealers, with some exceptions, are pretty well known to be arrogant and aloof to the customer (that is until they beg you to give them all 5s on the customer satisfaction survey).

I think that BMW and MB both of attitude.

In my area NYC & Long Island the only thing worse is on the mega dealers.

My brother just purchased a Honda minvan and almost every sales person was a jerk that was going to "fight" for you. (he works for the manger not you) The sale people at Honda & Toyota are generally low level jerks that no nothing about cars.

Volvo, Ford and GM dealers seem better.

Price is a issue but a five hundred dollars more or less is not a big deal when you are talking about a $50,000 plus car.

In another tread you can read about someone who did not get his last "free" oil change.

If the dealer was smart he would pay for it him self and build a customer. If BMW was smart they pay for it as well.
