 Defrost always on? Please help...

On my sisters 2004 Z4 3.0i the climate control always has the vent for the winshield defrost on. Even when the knob is at full floor (she has the manual climate control) it will still blend to the defrost for the winshield and the door.

This has become a safety concern as the winshield will inevitably fog up from the outside due to the defrost vent always being on, this requires the car to have the windshield wipers on int. even during the daytime.

Thanks for letting me vent. Any suggestions on a fix, anybody have a similar problem on a 2003 and later Z4? I have a feeling it is simply a "blend door" in the HVAC system that is not opening and closing the defrost vent completely. The techs think it is "normal" what a joke.

When the window starts to fog give it a few seconds of A/C (my car does this too) to dry the windows. Not sure what the wipers do since the condensation is on the inside.

A few seconds of A/C clears it right up.

This is normal.

Indeed, I don't understand this either?! It occasionally happens on my girlfriend's Mercedes. Turning on the wipers does help though?! I guess the condensation must also form on the outside? Maybe turning on the vent with cold air condenses the air on the outside of the window?

It is not from the inside guys, it is the condensation that builds up on the exterior of the windshield from the difference in temperature from the defrost vent in relation to the outside ambient air. This temperature differential causes serious build of condensation or water on the outside of the vehicle.

The manual climate control system is always sending at least 50% of the air to the defrost vent regardless of the setting on the control panel.

Forget about even heat distribution. When the temperature knob is set to heat, almost 85% of the air gets sent to the defrost vent regardless of the distrubution knob. For example if the air cond. panel is set to floor only then the sir will distributed to the floor as well as the defrost vent.

The Regional Technican will be at the dealership soon perhaps he will sort this issue out. If not LEMON LAW TIME!

My question is, has anybody experienced this problem? Any fixes?
