If you've had Wheels America repaint the hyperchrome color on an M roadster/coupe (98-00), did they actually match the factory color? Or, did they use a metallic silver paint instead?

They didn't come close. It appeared that they used a standard silver and tried to dust them with a little black spray from a rattle can. It was almost comical how uneven and poor they looked. This was the Dallas one, results may vary.
I went with aftermarket powdercoat, just be aware that any proper refinish requires use of aircraft quality stripper to remove the factory powdercoat. My guy charged $75/wheel for the stripping. The advantage of full removal is that they can lay pc straight onto metal, and the factory finish won't seep through in the coating process.

Their only retail location is in Tampa, FL - But they did a 100% perfect job on my wheels. Had one with a ton of curb rash and scratches and junk (eBay) as well as one with a big chunk taken out of it (curb). Perfect color match, perfect restoration.
It might be worth it to ship your wheels to them if you can't find anyone else.
Caveat - Expensive. $250 per wheel. Still cheaper than new wheels.

While it was possible to come very near to stock, I chose to go darker. I let a few week's brake dust build up and matched it as close as possible. It's Morton's Black Chrome and it's held up great. Price with stripping is about $125/wheel, or $100/wheel for simple colors like black.
