 Finally...

After much pain, I finally drove away in my '01 M Roadster last weekend. It only took a month trying to get the paperwork through (never try to register a Wisconsin titled car in Michigan while stationed in Ohio), and getting there to pick it is a whole other story for another time.

Anyway, I'd like to get your thoughts out there on this sitation I have with the car. The warranty runs out in late November. It'll cost about $2800 to extend for three years and the car only has 15K on it. So simply: Is it worth it?

I do want to enventually do the 6-spd mod that some of you have done. The car feels like it needs another gear going down the highway. Before that, the rear-end diff reinforcement will be the first to happen. Regardless, I'm glad I got the car just in time for winter , but it least I have something to play with in the garage over the next few months.

Look forward to hearing you comments...

P.S. Is there any way to get the front license plate bracket off w/o making it look too bad afterward?

Im not a M owner but my opinion would be assunming the motor is covered by the 100k wty.
then no i would not get the warranty

Very nice! I wouldn't get the warranty. You can do most maintenance yourself and I haven't heard about major repairs that cost 2800 dollars. Of course, I don't know everything about the M cars as mine isn't one.
My dad has a '96 Z3 and never had any repairs apart from normal maintenance...

Need another gear going down the highway -- for what??? So you can cruise going 170 rather than 140. Most S54 M owners I know complain that they never see 5th gear unless they are really hitting it. How fast exactly are you cruising?

Well, when I was in Euope I could...truth is that I came from driving a '00 Vette w/ a 6-spd where I tach around 1800 for highway cruising (approx. 80 mph). With the M, I'm around 2800-3000 rpm at the same speed. Granted the redline is higher w/ the S54 than the LS1, but I just keep trying to shift to 6th all the time because of the higher revs.

I hit 5th all the time 80MPH 3000RPMS. It would be nice to cruse at 2500RPMS while doing 80MPH.

If you were to get a lower gear in the rearend you would then have to consider the 6 speed conversion cost vs bennifit, It just makes since.

BTW: Congrads on the new S54M... Looks just like mine

Yes take the front plate bracket off/ screwdriver
