My HID headlight Odyssey--- June 'til October!

I ordered a ProjectorZ headlight kit from Umnitza back in late May or early June.
Matt at Umnitza informed me that the HID units that I wanted (5000k) were out of stock, but that since I had one headlight out at the time he would send me the kit with the HIDs to follow and that I could install everything with the Halogen bulbs and use them until the HIDs arrived. Very cool. Order was placed and I received the ProjectorZ kit on the 9th of June.

Installation proceeded with a few minor bumps along the way, but nothing insurmountable with some supplies from the nearest Home Depot. They even were fairly well aimed --- not perfectly aimed, but plenty good enough to use. The light output was very good.

Now all I have to do is wait for the HIDs.
I waited.
And waited.
And e-mailed --- both Umnitza and Apexcone.

I got reassurances that "they are on the way" several times.
I got assurance that Umnitza sent the order to Apexcone within a couple of days of the original order.
I was assured that the order had been simply misplaced and it had been corrected now.
I was promised that I would receive a better HID kit for my trouble --- hey, I didn't even know there was more than one HID kit from which to choose!
I was assured that "this is bizarre" more than once.
I was informed that my HID kit had been shipped to the wrong person --- TWICE!
This went on from July until mid-October when I FINALLY received my HID kits.

The HID kits are Xtec 50 watt 5000k H9 kits and they work brilliantly! (pun intended) Installation was easy (plug & play) and the light output and colour temperature is very good. No, I don't want blue or violet headlights, thank you. These HIDs and Projectors are the headlights that the M coupe (and roadster) should have had from the factory.

All is now well. I hope the problems I encountered are not common.
Matt form Umnitza promised that he'd send me the HID kit out of his own pocket, but fortunately it never became necessary for that.
Jim form Apexcone sent me a better HID kit than I originally purchased.
I hope no one has to go through all the dalays I did again.

NOTE: I am assigning no blame to anybody. Sometimes this stuff just happens. What I am providing is just one data point. Yes, I was upset over this. I got over it.

Thanks for the writeup.

S**t happens, but it's always good to hear when the guys in charge are willing to take care of their customers (offering to pay for product and sending you a product better than you ordered)

You are too nice Bob. I'd let them have it (esp Umnitza, since he's done this to me before also). This is really nothing new with these guys.

Now I gotta see your beam pattern and light output.

I guess my situation wasn't the exception to the rule either. My kit was shipped wrong, then shipped incomplete, then when finally complete was assembled wrong. I had to disassemble it and rebuild it so that the wires were watertight in the plugs, or else I could have had shorts on rainy days. It was eventually all straightened out, but sounds like this type of thing isn't all that out of the ordinary...

Bob, thanks for the account.

This stuff simply doesn't happen since we severed ties with Apexcone. We have complete control of shipments and it simply isn't a problem anymore.
