 New BMW TV Ads...yuk!

OMG....BMWNA marketing is TOTALLY SELLING OUT!

One of the very few things I actually LOATHE about the holidays is all the sugar coated sappy LEXUS ads showing the disturbingly thin and beautiful married couples surprising each other with new Lexuses wrapped in gigantic Dr. Suess-esque red bows.

This year BMW has started with similar touchy feely ads. Soccer mom drving through the Home Depot parking lot in her X3. Daddy singing "The wheels on the bus" in his E60. The jerk getting his photo taken at DMV 20 times until it's "just perfect"....as if BMW owners are this neurotic. And today I saw a BMW "Holiday Sale" event promotion....a direct copy of the Lexus campaign....complete with holiday decorations.

GET OVER IT, BMW!! We want to see our 4 wheeled favorites ripping through the Alps at 140 mph......not as mere props in your new overly sentimental "Hallmark Card" moment. The soft sell and BMW just don't go together.

More BMWs DRIVING and less actors acting!!

I feel better now.

I seem to miss most BMW ads (the Wheels On The Bus one being the only one you mentioned that I've seen). But I agree: all the ads target people that aren't about the drive.

The ads I did like were the X3 avoiding an accident on a mountain road and the teaser commercials for the new 3 (1, 2, 3!). I also thought last year's X3 commercial, while still not showing exciting driving, was a creative way to show off xDrive (the dynamic X pattern dividing the frame into four seasons with the X3 in the center). The X5 commercial with the angels guarding each wheel could have been developed more (faster driving, hard cornering, worse conditions, more dramatic low angles of wheels, etc.).

But the best car commercial of the year probably should go to Nissan's Z commercial with the old-timey driving song playing over two Zs tearing through streets, with engines growling, diving in and out of frame. That's about perfect for me, even if I don't really like Zs.

I can't agree more!

The "wheels on the bus" ad really makes me cringe the most (especially since Assist is an overpriced piece of garbage IMHO)

I wonder if these new ads are courtesy of BMW's new agent, GSD&M.

I saw an all inclusive BMW ad the other day, prominently displaying the 4 year warranty on new Bimmers. And actually while reading this thread, I saw the new revamped 3 series ad, the one that starts with the rock drummer. It's the same as a few months ago, but now It has all the favorite quotes from the reviews. "King of it's class" "Most important car this year" etc.

I never really liked the US 3 series ads, they just don't seem to showcase the car nice enough, they are too short, and the shots of the car are just too quick and frenetic to really get a good look at this beautiful car.
