Hello all, I just picked up a 2001 M-coupe last Saturday . It is silver in mint condition with 10,000 miles on it. I love the car and is a dream to drive, but I have heard of several recalls on the s54 including something about rod bearings??? I was wondering if anyone could elaborate on this so I know what to look out for or what work needs to be done.
Thanks for letting me know what you know!

Maybe try the search button, many threads on the S54 engine.

2001/02 were bad years for M's do to engine failures.

This site lists all the service bulletins, you particular model/year has quite a lengthy list.

If your engine was one of the ones rebuilt, you should have a 100k warranty.

During this period, on of BMW's suppliers provided defective parts that affected some, not all M3's during 01-02.

Good luck!

step one is have the oil tested by blackwell and keep doing it to look for telltale copper content.

Congrats on the purchase, welcome

As if the engine issue isn't enough for the S54 owners, look into the subframe issues that all Z owners are prone to experience (sticky at the top plus search)...it might give you nightmares, but there are solutions, so don't worry too much

Enjoy, its a great car!
