 6 Speed Folks - Having a Heck of a Time w/ Tranny

One problem after another. Nothing ever seems to go right for me.

Anyways, any of you guys w/ the 6 speeds that did it yourselves have a Hell of a time getting the input shaft to mate up with the pilot bearing?

Spent easily 6 or 7 hours under the car today, and it is right up about 1/4 of an inch away from bolting in, but just will not push into the bearing. Jostling and pushing and changing the angles of the engine and transmission did nothing.

Right now I'm sitting with the stuff on jacks, 1/4" from being perfect all around, crying.

Clutch/Pressure plate went on without incident, lined up nearly instantly w/ the tool... It's at the perfect straight on angle... Can't think of anything to get this thing to work. It went into the clutch/flywheels splines with a few slow turns of the guibo.

Any ideas?

I've been there a few times in the past 35 years. Try putting the trans in gear and have someone turn the gears shightly with the drive shaft, that may get it to go in. Also try this; even though the alignment tool goes in smoothly, the clutch disc might still be very slightly off. Rock the trans slightly up, then down, then left then right, while someone moves the gears slightly. Warning: be careful not to damage the input bearing!

Woo, perfect advice. Went out there at 9am this morning and hooked up the driveshaft, got it turned not more than an inch and the darn thing just "fell" in the pilot bearing. Used the bolts to pull it the final couple of millimeters in, and perfect.

Thanks a bunch!
