A new member here, I just bought a Z4 w/steptronic w/both packages w/a $5,000 dealer incentive (MSPR minus $8k). Now I'm concerned how much I might lose on my car if I wanted to turn around and buy a new '06 Z4 w/M motor if it comes out in Jan.

interesting you bought a step, but want a M. What was your logic for getting the auto in the first place? (just curious)
what color?

I'm new here so I probably have the terms wrong. First I need a Stepronic since my wife doesn't drive stick--she will be a driver too. Next, when I was talking about getting an '06M I wasn't refering to a manual trans but rather the higher hp motor like perhaps in an upcoming '06 MZ4 roadster.
I'm also wondering what the "Sport Mode" really does in the Steptrinic -05 Z4. All it really seems to do is just pick up the rev's like in a downshift.
Only had the car for one day and already I'm thinking about an upcoming MZ4.

If they follow the Z3's the M will only come in a stick

exactly - i should've clarified that.
as far as the Drive "Sport" mode - all it does is hold gears a little longer during acceleration and quickens throttle response. look in your manual for more details.
Welcome to the forum, btw

curious to see if they will follow the "M is for manual" tradition in the Z4s or if it will be offered in SMG.....time will tell
