Newbie here so I appreciate any input. A few different questions...
Looked at an 02 M roadster today. 12k miles, Dinan strut brace, Dinan exhaust. Chipped. Black over black. They are asking $37.5k. I figure $34-$35k. What do you think?
OR....
Am I better off getting an sc'd S52 for the same money?
OR...
Am I better off getting a 97 993 for the same money?
Ideally I would like to take the car to the track one or two weekends a year. 90% will be weekend fun runs. NOT a daily driver. Can I even take the M on the track?
Thanks in advance for your replies!

Personally I would always buy a stock engine over a SCed one. If I felt the need to get it SCed I'd get it done myself. Added to that the relative rarity of the S54 v S52, so for me its a no brainer. Having said that, that pertains more to road use.
As far as the track goes I can't help you, sorry. I guess get whichever car gives you the biggest thrills on the track. I'm assuming the SCed car will have a bolstered breaking and suspension system too? Are you planning on competative racing or just going for a thrash?

From what you describe you might beable to get them down to around 31- 34K. The retail value will be around 34K if it is certified used from a dealer.
Knowing that it has the dinan upgrades.... 34K sounds like a very good deal. See what you can get it for ... start with 30K let them counter offer http://www.edmunds.com/used/2002/bmw...poption.1.BMW*
Good Luck:-)
BTW Never settle for less than what you really want... you will just find youself driving a car you really dont want thinking I wish I would have bought the S54 M roadster...

Thanks for the feedback guys. I figure $34k for a car with dinan upgrades and a warranty to 2007 is not a bad deal.
My only concern is that I will not be able to take the car out on the track for drivers education events (not racing). I currently run my 930 for DE's and would miss doing it a lot. I kow my BMWCCA club does not allow them.

There are clubs that will let you run the roadster for driving events. However, if weekend warrior at the track is what you're looking for, a coupe is a better choice (prefereably one with no sunroof).
