 Z3 questions

I need to lean on the experience of the group again. My brother has a '97 1.9 Z3 and we are going to be doing a little DIY over Thanksgiving. But first we need a little advice.

1) The shocks in his car are shot and he is debating between Bilstein Heavy Duty and the Koni Sports. The Koni's are a little more expensive but adjustable. He has the stock units now and he doesn't plan on lowering it much if at all.

2) The black vinyl around the windshield is cracked and pealing, if we remove it is there paint under there?

Thanks in advance,

Paul

My choice would be the Bilsteins, but I know little about the Konis. If he is planning to lower the car at all at some point, he might want go to the Bilstein Sport shocks. There is paint under the vinyl around the windshield, which can be removed. Work slow and carefully. It helps to leave the car in the sun for a while or use the low heat of a hairdryer to soften the vinyl.

Unless you are gogin to actually test and tune the shocks, the adjustability is not a factor.

Either shocks will work and work well. I have Konis on three cars overall, and Bilsteins on three (some of the vehicles are older, not running and not listed in my sig).

I would not put Bilstein Sports on a car until you lower it. At that point you could sell the HDs to someone else. The Konis would not change with lowering.
