 Strange BMW Buy Back Offer...

I got a rather unexpected and somewhat disconcerting letter from BMW Program Headquarters yesterday in the mail.

It tells me that the dealership where I bought my car "has been selected as the designated dealer in my area to conduct a unique vehicle exchange and financing event which will feature 100% market valuation for my current vehicle".

Apparently, I am "pre-qualified" to have my car bought back by BMW at 100% trade-in market value in exchange for a new or pre-owned BMW.

Now, that is a pretty strange letter to receive in the first place. But mainly, what is so special about this offer. It's as if I wanted to buy a new car and trade-in my car for it.

What is so unique about this "special offer"? Am I missing something here? Has anyone else received such letter and checked it out?

Thanks,

I got a letter from my Acura dealership saying that they were required to acquire 1995 Acura Integras. "Coincidentally", I happen to drive a 1995 Integra. Same crap.

Received these letters from Honda, Nissan, Acura, and Volvo. My bimmer is the only one I haven't gotten one for. Its basically junk mail, sent to houses where certain makes, and model years of vehicles are registered.

Its just a standard marketing ploy to get you into the dealership. There are no special deals or buy back offers, and there is no abnormally high demand for your 199x/200x (insert make & model) on the used car market. That last line alone is the obvious give away. They make it seem like demand is so high for your used car that they're practially giving away new cars to get it.
