 Strange BMW Buy Back Offer...

I got a rather unexpected and somewhat disconcerting letter from BMW Program Headquarters yesterday in the mail.

It tells me that the dealership where I bought my car "has been selected as the designated dealer in my area to conduct a unique vehicle exchange and financing event which will feature 100% market valuation for my current vehicle".

Apparently, I am "pre-qualified" to have my car bought back by BMW at 100% trade-in market value in exchange for a new or pre-owned BMW.

Now, that is a pretty strange letter to receive in the first place. But mainly, what is so special about this offer. It's as if I wanted to buy a new car and trade-in my car for it.

What is so unique about this "special offer"? Am I missing something here? Has anyone else received such letter and checked it out?

Thanks,

That *might* mean that they're basing their trade in price on what they think they can sell it for at retail, rather than what they can auction it off for.

Of course SARAFIL and the others would know more than I do.

- 100% trade-in market value -

Sounds like a play on words. Isn't "trade-in market value" what anyone else would get when they trade in a car?

Sounds like BMW is having to stoop to the level of the Big-Three. The new ugly cars aren't selling themselves anymore.

I have no clue what this is about.

In other words, they will give you 100% of the current book trade-in value for your car. Wow, how generous.

I wonder what makes that "unique"? Dealerships offer full trade-in value (oftentimes more) to customers all the time.

The only way to find out is to go in and get 'the number'. Sales have generally been off for most manufacturers and inventories are high. I'm generalizing here. I haven't looked at BMW's numbers. Its easier for them to move used. My wife got a call last week from the Chrysler dealer to bring her PT Cruiser in 14 months early and the deal was so good she got a new one with more features, a lower lease payment and a lower residual.
