 ABS problem

Hi all,

New to this forum, new M Roadster driver, new autocrosser, and finally, new do-it-yourselfer. I have a 1998 M Roadster with some issues. I don't have much fixing up experience, but I am eager to learn, so I need lots of help! The first problem I want to tackle is the ABS light. Sometimes it is on, sometimes it's not. I do not want to just put electrical tape over it because the ABS does not work when light is on. However, it does work when light is off.

I had my battery checked and there is no problem there. The next step would be to check the wheel speed sensors. My wheels are continuously dirty from excessive brake dust, so these sensors could be malfunctioning. What I need to know is where exactly within the brake system are the speed sensors and the best way to clean them.

I've gotten a lot of good information off this forum so far, but could anyone help me with the stupid details that eveyone else on here probably already knows. I basically need "the idiots guide" type of instructions.

Please help, my M needs you!

Beth

I don't have a specific answer for you, but below is a link to the results of an advanced search of the Z-series forum for abs light. Take a look at some of the threads to see if it helps you diagnose and fix your particular problem. And welcome, this forum is a great source for information.
