Since I have no plans of loosing yet another season of autox I am planning ahead to get ready early this time around. I have a few items on my todo list and a 3.73 LSD is one of them. I am going to have it rebuilt anyway with a 3rd or maybe even a 4th friction plate, reramp the gears for progressive lock up. But I need a differential first. So the question is where can I get one at a good price?
Thanks, Florian

Since you are going to have it rebuilt anyway, I'd look for an E30 3.73LSD at a wrecking yard or on eBay. The S54 coupe with 3.46 gears is very quick --- 3.73's ought to make it a rocket!

They're on ebay all the time, there's one there now @ about $185, but it's a 4 bolt flange which you should avoid. Dan at diffsonline.com has one in his used section under 6 cylinders, which would be the stronger 6 bolt flange model for $500. You could also have him set one up to your specs, $1300 to $1700, with your diff in trade.

One other thing: autoXing with a 3.73 is probably the worst thing you can do to the weak differential mount. You should talk to Randy about the dual-ear mounting.

Thanks, Florian | Florian,
I've got one from my '90 325is. It's the stronger 6-bolt flange. 181k miles on it. One of the side seals is leaking and there's seepage from the main cover gasket, but those don't matter since you'd be having it rebuilt anyhow. It doesn't seem to be excessively worn, but if there's a way to test it I'd be willing...it's still in the car for now, but I have a 125k mile 3.73LSD in mint shape that I got for free with my race car that I'm going to replace the 181k one with.
If you're interested I can get you some pics when I return from Peru (I'm on a photoshoot down here...) on the 15th or so...
