 Shifter problem

It seems that when I leave work late (7pm or later), the spring that keeps the gear shifter from going to far right is not working. So, shifting from second to third is a problem as it sometimes goes into fifth. My drive home is only about 5 miles and usually by the time I get home, the spring (or whatever) is working again. Mornings are no problem.

So, has anyone had this problem and how do I fix it? The Bently manual doesn't mention anything about this lockout function. I assume there is one going the other way to keep you out of reverse.

Sup cuzzo,

I have an article on this well-documented problem. It explains how you can go about fixing the issue as well. I'll post it up tomorrow on Bimmerforums.

Thanks. I checked all the normal MZ3 web sites and I could find nothing on the problem.
