If there are any 7/1996 or older z3 owners here I need a favor, Can you tell me where your spare tire is and take some pics of it for me while its mounted in its place
Randy, I may be wrong but it looks like the spare tire holder for the 7/96 z3 does not use the plastic tray like mine did, it looks like it uses a half moon support which I am assuming is under the car as well not the wire carrier that mine had with the hinge..
from what i can gather by the below picture the half moon mounts the tire under the car like mine but not using the hinged wire carrier

tire carrier. It is as the picure shows. The spare on the front battery car is not hinged but suspended and it is a major PITA to drop when you need to.  I will be putting my car in the air to put in new sway bars this coming week and I will be dropping the spare. I will send you pix then, unless someone beats me to it.
Also with a rear battery I don't think the front battery spare would work. The location is more to the center of the car.

I will owe you big, when i see you on the next texas drive ill get you dinner or beer or both
while i have you here, is it a secure mount? any noises or vibrations from that design
