1. what's up w/ the 1st gear redline power loss? every time i hit ~ 6800 it's like a regulator kicks in & shuts off the gas, like a top speed limiter.
2. is there a way to retrofit the rear panel oddments box in a HK equipped roadster? my HK sub is blown & i doubt i'll replace it, but the oddments box would be great for my wife (her car).
TIA!

TIA! | #1 - That's the rev limiter kicking in. It's actually quite smooth, compared to other limiters I've felt.
#2 - If it's possible, you'll find the part#'s at www.realoem.com

The top cover to the HK system isn't too awful tough to get off. The rear clips are a bit of a challenge, but will give. I recently poked around in our car, and found that all 4 retaining screws on the "sub" box were loose, probably contributing to the rattle. I went ahead and Dynomated the enclosure (2 12" x 12" sheets from Best Buy) and it sounds a lot better! You can actually hear bass now. If you are 100% sure the speaker is blown, and don't want to replace/upgrade it, you can always try a custom fabrication in the opening to hold stuff. That way you aren't tied to what BMW engineers may have thought best, but what you actually want. Fiberglass shell seems like the logical choice, and for a simple enclosure may not be expensive. You may even be able to do something yourself out of wood, if you are handy.

The 3.0I I had was changed to shift at redline (7500RPM) and had no problem doing it and was perfectly safe for the engine and tranny.

But my point was the blind deference to the redline, wondering why the motor bogs when the needle sweeps past it.
