After watching my brother have a blast in his '99 M Coupe I took the plunge and bought an '03 Z4 3.0 Roadster with all the bells and whistles. I've been a lurker on the forums for some time but wanted to say hi.

Upgrades going in this week are Passport / Escort Radar Detector and Laser Shifters. I found out it didn't have a factory alarm so I'm probably going to take it in and have the dealer alarm installed unless someone has any other ideas. I've seen OEM Z4 alarms on Ebay for the 225 mark -- if I'm prewired are these hard to install? I understand they have to be activated by the dealer -- My dealer wants $60 to activate it if I install it. My dealer will also install the BMW alarm but says the motion detectors are not available but the one I see on Ebay has them. What gives? Is he lazy, out of stock, or more informed than I am?

I want to add XM Radio and have the NAV/DSP/whatever radio already. Is anyone else running XM with this combo? How did you do it? My local aftermarket stereo shop wants to sell me an FM modulated one and I am resisting.

I understand there are some cool .pdf's here someplace that may answer some of my questions but I've not found any dealing with aftermarket XM or OEM alarms.

I'd appreciate any pointers, advise, tips, etc. Thanks in advance.
