I am looking for info on headers. what kind of performance gains have you experienced, what is the increase in noise/volume of exhaust? ( i don't want to be an obnoxious loud "rice burner" no offense to anyone, i drive an acura as my daily driver, i just don't like the unrefined sound of so many of the japanese tuner cars.
what are the legalities outside ca?
the ones i am looking at--supersprint--- are rather pricey---are they worth it?

I wouldn't expect much of a hp gain with just headers. Gotta go from end to end to make it worth the effort (headers, hi flow cat, performance exhaust). What you will notice is a slight change in tone, a little more of a noticable click of the valves, and some additional maintenance. Headers have to be tightened about once a month or they'll start to leak and eventually blow the gasket if you don't keep them tight. Simply, just plan to do a FULL exhaust if you want an appreciable inc. in power.

I just added Supersprint headers to our M Roadster. Used the Euro headers for an M3. Added the S54 mid pipes and included a pair of V8 Hi Flow SS cats so I could retain the stock O2 sensor function. The S54 midpipes increased the pipe diameter to same as the headers as well as routed the exhaust in the same position as the stock pipes. Pipe dia is 2 3/8" all the way from the collectors on the Supersprint headers to the rear pipes. Already have Supersprint rear pipes. Had to use a pair of flanges to adapt the headers to the S54 midpipe. Had the headers JetHot coated while I was at it. Works perfectly. Sound is still deep like stock but a little louder. Has a little rasp now at full throttle at certain revs. Not unlike the rasp the S54s have. I don't much like the rasp but I think it is more to do with the balance pipe on the S54 rear piece than anything else. Definitely not the headers. The bling factor of the Jethot coated headers is very nice as they are quite visible from above. Haven't been back to the dyno yet. Best pull to date was 364 RWHP without the headers.

I've never owned a set of headers that stayed tight for more than a month or so. For a set like the Supersprints, I'd probably safety wire them in. As for loctite, I bet the block is seeing at least 400 degrees, and the exhaust gas are in the 1300 degree range. That's a lot of heat... I'd safety wire.

I have always used a special type of liquid exhaust sealer on the bolts. never had a problem with them backing out.
