What Year?
What year M-Coupe/M-Roadster is the best in terms of problems, performance, and options?
| | Reply » What Year? | I would say for the S52, or 240 hp models, the late 1999 or 2000 Ms. And for the S54, 315 hp models, either the 2001 or 2002. There were a number of improvements and changes beginning in April 1999. Although one could also argue that the 1998 M Roadsters are desirable since it is the first year of production and the car was simpler without items like ASC or DSC or side airbags. Here's some information on both Ms.

The newer ones come with more hp out of the box than u will probably need, the older ones are more "mod-able", newer ones have potential engine issues, older ones have more miles.....its all a trade off. IMO, you can't go wrong with either one. but thats me.
| | Reply » What Year? | I'd say the 2001-2002 ///M roadster/coupe are the best ones. I'm a huge fan of low-end torque, which these cars don't really pack much of. The s54 engine has the most torque of the z-cars (251 ft/lbs), which is why it's my favorite.
Now don't get me wrong, all ///M cars can probably go crazy fast, if the road is clear/long/straight enough, but I wish the ///M cars had neck-snapping toqure like the big 5.7 chevy engines. The s54 is capable... but you have to work those revs pretty high up to feel the same effect in the "seat of the pants".
