 Homecoming... Suggestions for improvement?

Does anyone have suggestions on how to improve Homecoming? No one asked me for suggestions, but we did come up with a few ideas that will make it better for vendors.

From our perspective:

1. Let more cars in. Like 1000. Invite more people and find a way to accomodate them. When we know 80% of the people who walk up to our tent by name (and car and sometimes even by zip code) we can't sell them more parts that they already bought in a previous year. How do people find out about HC? Just the internet? Could BMW direct mail new owners to let them know about HC?

2. Provide repeat vendors with discounts. The fees add up to a lot. People like DougW could not sell enough product to break even (may be the same for 2 other vendors as well) so there are very few vendors.

This was also my second HC. I scheduled both the factory tour & my driving on Friday.
(I missed the factory tour but how much different was it from last year) . Saturday went for the picture then had nothing to do until dinner. (Drove solo with Big & Rich to Charlotte)

An added afternoon drive to Brevard would have been fun as many do not take that in because it is on Sunday.

Maybe the smaller vendors like Doug could hold a demo & sell forum at the Embassy Thursday & Friday. I know RF picked up a backlog of customers there.
And The guys from Atl. doing the seat rocker shims would have had more of an audiance if it had been posted somewhere.
Then Friday night the aftermarket guys could sponsor a more official shine & show event like the impromtu one after dinner Friday night. I thought the Theme cars and the Mod cars were great (we know Gordon would get the most Chrome certificate).

As most folks here have said in other threads after your first HC the rest are more about the people. So I say it must be up to the people. BMW Spartonburgs love our devotion but there were still more 3's than 4's & corporate BMW has already profitted from our purchase of those cars.

We all have a year to brainstorm and should.
Maybe Ken should have a few 3 & 4 owners on an advisory board?? I also like the downtown Greenville idea.
What Say You????

BMW does send out mailers for Homecoming. I bumped into a couple from NC who showed me a postcard inviting them a few years back. One or two dealerships I've been to have known about it, and used it as a selling point for the Z3s and Z4s. Word of Mouth also helps a lot

Homecoming's been written up in BMW Magazine, Roundel, and at least one UK magazine that I can't remember right now. I'm pretty sure that Roundel events listings have mentioned it. Given the current capacity limits, they don't really need to advertise it, but if they were to expand the number of attendees, they might have to talk it up, some.

Also, quite frankly, I've been to four of them, and have missed the last three, somewhat intentionally. I've been too busy/poor to go, and found a regional event to go to instead (Rolex Vintage Festival).

Like CarlM said, it's better to get the driving events/factory tours out of the way on Friday. This way, attendees can do their pano's / tech tent / vendor browsing activities on Saturday.

Scheduling clinics for seat bushings, glovebox fixes, installing LZ goods and the like sound like something I'd love to assist with. Unfortunately, none of these are BMW pieces so something done at the host hotel would be better. However, it's always hot all balls on Labor Day wknd so a tent would be nice.

NOT HC related but just another LZ item
Jon, I honestly feel like I have all the products I want for my already on my car. You and I have discussed expanding your product line to include an iPod base so perhaps this might be a hot item for LZ. With the Coupe convoy (and probably the others too), we check each others cars out for how/where iPods were installed in our rides. Nobody has a solution that doesn't look like an eyesore when the device is not in its receptacle.

Finally, BMW Manufacturing should close down I-85 between exits 48B and 60 to everyone but Coupe & Roadster owners during HC and not police it either. Can someone make this happen?

Closing down 85 would be nice but I think you have a better chance of seeing God than that happening, as far as not policing it (Ya Ok) .I do agree with having the vendors at the hotel and I think the down town thing would be great.
