 Clunking Noise. Any thoughts?

Hi All,

Just curious if anyone has an idea what this noise might be. I have a 2000 M Roadster, and when I have some weight in the trunk (like luggage), someone sitting in the passenger seat, and I really get on the accelerator from a stop (1st to 2nd gear) there is a loud clunk in the rear. It is especially bad if I'm on a bit of an incline.

I thought it might be the rear shock mounts and shocks, but I just replaced them with Ground Control RSMs and Bilstein Heavy Duty shocks. The car does not do it without the added weight. Also, I have inspected the subframe and differential mounts and there is no apparent damage.

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks, Jerry

Make sure and check the main bolt that holds the diff to the car. The nut on mine was backed quite far off the bolt when I bought the car.
