 Alarm Problems -- HELP !!

Bought a used 2000 Z3, car did not appear to have an alarm.

After taking off the glovebox to do the glovebox fix, I noticed a light & a switch in the glovebox. I did not do anything to either.

After doing the fix, and putting the glovebox on, suddenly the car has an alarm.
I'm guessing my glovebox tinkering fixed a faulty connection. The problem is, I have no idea what to do w/ the alarm. It has a kill switch, so the car is no longer drivable.

Help!

Pushing the glovebox button does nothing to shut off the alarm, either w/ or w/out the key inserted.

Alarm goes chirp X 3, few high notes, then low notes. I know nothing about alarms & would prefer to totally disable this thing, as the glovebox is still jacked up (from the alarm installer I know now) and getting to the switch constantly would be a pain in the butt.

Suggestions?

Can you contact the guy you bought the car from? I know Our cars are prewired for the alarm.... maybe he can give you a clue on where to start.

unfortunately not. i bought the car wholesale from a dealer - it was a fresh trade in. as such, it is "as is". one of the down sides to buying @ wholesale prices when things like this happen.

I believe your alarm harness setup is like mine; the old style. There's a 12-pin connector behind the glove box into which the alarm would be plugged if the installer bothered to buy the mating connector. That doesn't include kill switch functionality, but the alarm will be plugged into it. And I assume the alarm was placed behind the glove box too, probably in the empty space near the top of the plastic rack that holds the wiper control module, etc. The alarm is likely getting power from the 12-pin connector, but it's hard to say without some pictures (some installers are awful hacks). Pull the glovebox back out and post some pictures.
