I'm really tired of Car and Driver and Road & Track magazines with their overblown self-important columnists and their constant shilling (sp?) for certain brands of cars. So, I'm asking the opinion of the most knowledgeable group of enthusiasts that I know. How about it folks, what do you consider the best car magazines out there and why?
Sorry if this has been discussed in the past, but I searched and really couldn't find anything.
Thanks in advance.

I like Evo and Octane. Both british with an international focus nevertheless. Evo is geared towards the performance car, but not purely sportscar. Well writen. Octane is a car enthousiasts mag in the wider sense. They feature new cars and classics, sometimes even watches and accessories. Interesting columnists and guest writers. (For example Jay Leno or Rowan Atkinson)

I guess that's because the awards are based on actually driving the damn cars!
I buy several of the slicks and am mildly amused by the hyperbolic, sophomoric writing, but it's the pictures and the occasional inside insights that I'm most interested in. (I.e., I don't buy them for the articles, as someone once said about buying Playboy.) And those comparo tests, of course.

Try "Car" magazine. The writers are actually literate and are damn well opinionated. They're British and unlike their American counterparts, they give less importance to 0-60 times and more to handling, steering feel and yes, the quality of the plastics (hear that GM?). It's more in depth too: they allocate more than a few paragraphs when it comes to comparos.

Car Evo Top Gear BMW Car Magazine
These are great publications from England that will give you a different perspective when compared to their US counterparts. The photography is excellent, and there's much more of it too (it helps that they're large-format magazines). Also, the journalists seem less inhibited and more inclined to give their personal opinions about car companies and their products.
