Roadsters On The Track and Miller Motorsports Park

I attended the kick off for the Miller Motorsports Park ( Salt Lake City, UT ) last night and wow, what a place it is going to be. I am curious does anyone here drive their Roadsters on the Track ? If so what preparations are needed, any recommendations, etc. ? I have a 99 M Roadster and the prices to go drive your own car there are low enough to make me seriously consider it. Thanks for any feedback, and if you haven't sat in an American LeMans race car, I highly recommend it !

I have a 2000 M Roadster which I take to BMW CCA club events and have run in One Lap of America for three years.

I put an HMS roll bar with a harness bar attached to that. The mounting point for the driver's side of the roll bar interferes with the top 1/4" of the hydraulic piston for the top, so you lose the power top (but I like it manual, it goes down much faster). I bought a set of 4 seat grommets, then had an upholstery shop cut holes in the seats & hides and install the grommets so that the Schroth harnesses could pass through the seat. I installed the Schroth harnesses myself eventually adding anti-submarining straps (for 6 point harnesses) coming up from the floor.

The bar is not quite SCCA legal, but the local BMW club chapter and the One Lap folks have never given me any crap about it.

I also did a bunch of stuff to the brakes, suspension and motor, but none of that is strictly necessary for going on the track. Stock, the M Roadster is significantly more capable than most of us driving them. Spending money on improving your ability as a driver is probably the wisest investment any of us can make.

Have a great time at the track.
