Well, it actually happened on Wednesday evening on the way home from work. About a mile and a half from my house, the odometer in my 2000 M Roadster turned over to 100,000 miles. In the rampant jubilation in my neighborhood over such a momentous event , some neighborhood punk smashed in the windshield with what was probably a 5lb hammer 5 years, 4 months and 16 days after picking up my car in Spartanburg, it turned over. |

Congrats on turning the big 100K That is indeed a milestone.
Truly sorry to hear about the windshield. Hopefully the posts were not damaged and only the glass needs to be replaced. The upside to this is that after 100K miles, your old windshield was probably pitted like crazy. The new windshield will be a very noticeable improvement.

As far as I can tell, that's all that happened. The guys at the glass shop replaced it the same day and they wouldn't have been able to if the posts were bunged up.
Here are a couple of pictures on the street where it happened. Guess that'll teach me to park in the street.

This is the second time I've replaced the windshield this year. The first time was early this Spring before we left for One Lap. Thanks to all of the sand and gravel they use on the roads here in the Pacific Northwest (Sand and gravel is better than salt, but not alot better in some ways - way more chipped paint, 'sandblasted' lights, and dinged windshields - but way less rotting metal), it is very easy to pick up several dings in a windshield in one year.
I got a ding on the very edge of the passengers side of the glass last Fall. I didn't want to replace it until the crack got 'really' bad. When it grew 6 inches in one hour in the Spring, I knew it was time.
So, I had had a relatively new windshield in there for about 6 months.
Oh well, it's new again.
