I've read Ron Styger's (sp) sunroof removal article for the Z3 coupes, but it doesn't say how easy it is, or what tools are required.
I haven't seen the pin setup in person, but can picture it in my head -- I figure the heads of the pins either point forward or backward, the clip is on the other end, and once the clips are off, the sunroof can be pulled back and of course the pins fall out from being pulled too far.
He says a magnetic pickup tool can be useful for picking up the clips, but I'd think a clip is too strong to be pulled out by a magnet, so I am guessing that means the clips pop off, and you use the magnetic tool to fish them out after they've been popped off? Or can the magnetic tool just slide them right up (ie, are they not really clipped in that tight)?
I guess my question is, can I remove the roof without tools? Do I need pliers to pull the clips off? Is there even room for pliers? Can it be done with your fingers?
thanks... this could come in handy if I want to enjoy the sun on a nice long post-purchase drive home that may possibly happen saturday..
