Buying a M roadster--need guidance
All,
I'm looking to begin a serious search for a M Roadster after Labor Day. Looking to go after the '01-'02s with the S-54 motor. Which brings me to ask those of you out there that already have one: What should I be aware of as I look at possible candidates? Already picked up on the rear end/subframe issue, and will install the beef-up kit after I purchase. Any and all advice will be greatly appreciated!

The oil services, inspections (including valve clearance checks), that the coolant and brake fluid have been flushed at their appropriate intervals. While perhaps more my own opinion, I like to see oil changes at 4500 miles versus the factory's 9000 mile interval. Blackstone (or other) oil analysis reports would be a big plus.
Naturally, you're going to be looking at the usual areas, such as paint, bodywork and interior trim.
If you discover any trunkfloor/differential issues developing, use that as a negotiating tool to work the price down. For a reference, e-mail me for an FAQ that outlines the work I do here in Toledo.
What part of Ohio are you in?

What part of Ohio are you in? | Randy doesnt the Warranty cover most of the 2001-2002 Z/M under CPO? or powertrain?
BMW here said if that happends they will repair it, they have done a few of them already. Dont get me wrong, I think your fix is the best one...
Also if the car is under a maintence contract with BMW they will only do oil changes every 9k miles or annually whichever is first.

They'll do the oil change annually or whenever the oil service indicator says so.
The oil indicator estimates oil wear based on some formula -- I've heard a lot of guess, like number of gallons of gas burned, or a formula based on miles and starts. I've never made it to 9k between changes. The furthest I've gotten was about 5k.

It must be a big embarassment to BMW and they don't want the bad publicity (would be my guess). But I've yet to hear of BMW voluntarily reinforcing it beyond the way it was built at the factory.
