Are BMWs with this option more prone to theft or less prone?

I have this in my CL55 and it is simply an electronic key transponder. To the extent the other electronics in the normal key (or "fob") can be duplicated (highly unlikely) then they could be duplicated in the transponder as well. But anyone having the technology to do this would probably not be in the car theft business.
In other words, I don't think comfort access (or keyless go in the Merc) is going to make the car more prone to theft.

If anything, it'd be better because its shorter range and the signal is less likely to be intercepted, although encryption makes that pretty moot in either case. Just a guess.

It should be standard. Not worth $500 in my opinion.

I like the convenience of being able to leave my keys in my pocket. Is it worth, say, $1 a day? I would say so. I sure hope I can retrofit it, at least for the ignition, when it's available on the 6er. The fob and button combo should make it do-able.
