 Expensive HELL (of) A Horn

Well it sounded (pun) like a good idea. Louder is better right? German is better right? Hella makes good things right?

NO

I drive only a little in the rain. the horns went in a year and a half ago. Yesterday they went "bee.... no Beep. check electric ok, pull headlight electric ok. pull one horn clean contacts direct to battery nothing. pull second horn same thing. AH! german lots of little screws and nuts to take it apart....humm ok Wah La water and tons of rust. Perfect outside dead inside.

Crap horns.

Of course I threw the OEMs out, who needs them when I have these SUPER HORNS! oh well anyone have some spare OEM horns for me?

Bummer

If you decide to re-do this, would you try to water proof the horns (some type of silicone gasket) or provide some way for water to get out of the horns (since it's gonna get in anyway) ?
For example, my double galzed windows have weep holes between the panes because the manufacturer figured they're gonna get moisture in, and if he provided a way for it to get out, then no problem.

Hi Bob;

Hope all is well. Man that blows about your horn....OR DOESN'T BLOW! LOL....Didn't realize you had moved to Fla? I guess you won't be joining us at Z3 Fest this year?

Same d*mn thing happened to me. Someone took a "free" right turn in front of me as I was going with a green light. I hit the horn and brakes hard....

Good thing the M Roadster brakes work well, because those horns did not. Both of them in the pair were dead (see my diagnosis efforts here http://bimmerfest.com/forums/showthread.php?t=34864 , thanks to Ron S).

Fortunately, I am a packrat. I kept the old horns, which went back in.

If you bought the "super dead" horns from Griots, they have a "no questions asked" return policy. They can look up your old order for you, and you'll get a refund of the cost. You'll just be out the shipping and install cost and/or hassle.

I still want a loud horn -- I may wire an air horn (via relay) in parallel to the stock horns. But most of the small air horns are made by Hella, so I'm going to keep the stock ones wired in.

If you purchased them from Griots, they will replace them and you can sell them if you don't want to use them again. You don't have to return the bad ones.
I assume that you mounted them like I did? Am I do for a no beep too? Going two years with mine.

Mine were done that way.... but come to think about it, one might have been facing up. I can't recall.

You may want to test your horn(s) regularly. I noted that my horn didn't sound quite like I expected once, but didn't think too much about it. It may have been because one of the two horns was already dead.
