 Royal Purple

Changing my oil this weekend with Royal Purple 5w30 synthetic. I have always used either Mobil 1, BMW, or Lubro-Moly synthetics. Has anyone ever tried Royal Purple and was there any noticeable difference? I got it at Pep Boys for $5.99 qt. The same price the dealer charges for their 5w30. I have read good things about this oil.

I started with Royal Purple when I switched from dino 15w-40 to synthetic. Not a very scientific reason for picking RP than the other brands. You see I live 4 miles from RP's headquarters. Figure I could always drop in on them if my engine blew up! No problems so far with using any RP product.

The first time I did my own oil change on my 2001 330Ci I used Royal Purple. So far I am very happy with it. I used to go through a quart of oil every few months (by the orange light on the dash) now it never comes on. Not sure if it's the oil or the new oil filter but either way my car seems happy with it.

I used it on my 99 Coupe and loved it. The engine seemed to run smoother, maybe just my imagination.

You need to get a BMWCCA membership and use it at the dealer to get a discount on the BMW oil they sell. I can't believe your BMW dealer charges you that much for BMW oil. Strange as it may sound, BMW oil from the dealer was (maybe no longer? ) one of the best deals going and even better with the discount usually given to BMWCCA members.

However, if you're happy with the RP, excellent! I used their oil in my manual tranny...seems fine...dunno if it is any better than BMW's tranny oil. They are a good company...I trust them.

I use their engine assembly lube, but've never tried their other products.

When it comes to motor oil, I've bought Castrol exclusively since 1973.
