i am afraid it is true. dont get me wrong: i love my 06 e61. but frankly there are some disappointments. this is a 60k car! plastic exterior door handles for one thing. that "clunk" as the door closes is not as tank like as i would like. in the past that vault solid door closing feeling really separated the german cars from others. interior is ok, but you can see where they cut corners. i love the car and i love the brand, but i dont think that in terms of fit and finish that bmw is head and shoulders above the rest as they should be.
my own personal guess is that mercedes comes on strong over the next 5 years. they have a new ceo who is charged up and they are not going to allow that brand to slip...my two cents. anyone feel similarly?

I am certainly not impressed with my 545. 20% of the time I actually regret the purchase. The biggest thing that bothers me now is the rattles coming from the rear. Dealer has looked at it, replaced door seals but the rattles are still there. Also, the handling could be tigher, needs to be more sporty and I have the sports package.
I've owned the car for three months and can't seem to find a comfortable spot for a driving position, adjusting my seat all the time.
On a positive note, the car does look phat and is very quick, hauls ass on the highway.
