So the new updated oil filter has a wrapping around the filter element as we know it. Since I will be doing an oil change soon (first one after the BMW freebies were gone) I was wondering about that wrapping. This question might seem stupid but here we go... Are you supposed to remove that wrapping when you install the filter or just install the filter as it it?
Thanks, Florian

Thanks, Florian | Don't remove the perforated wrapper. It's there to help maintain the filter's integrity.

Thanks lot for the tip.
Now I have a new question...
There are 2 washers in the oil kit:
1. aluminum looking one 2. copper looking one
The question is where is number 1 going? I assume number 2 is for the drain plug.
Thanks, Florian

Thanks, Florian | 1. = under the flanged head of the bolt that secures the oil filter cap 2. = drain plug

Thanks for the tip again. I even looked at TIS before I asked asked the question and there is no mention of number 1 washer. But I took the oil filter housing apart (BTW that bolt was so tight I could not believe - can dealers not overtorque everything they touch?) and noticed number 1 under the flanged head. It is basically a crash washer from what I figured out. As a bonus I took my dremel tool and polished the oil filter cap thoroughly since it looked terrible due to all cosmoline that was still on there. It looks awesome now. I put everything back for the night. Since I have all the info now I will do the oil change tomorrow.
Thanks again, Florian
