 Subframe developments...

We found some more this week. One was absolutely split. It was a Roadster 1.9 with 73k miles.

>>> If you have recently checked for subframe and/or differential damage, would you please take my very simple yes/no poll? Subframe Damage Poll

>>> If you found damage, please file a complaint with the NHTSA. NHTSA Complaint

Some people are retaining lawyers, there are two class action lawsuits developing and now we must start filing official complaints with the NHTSA.

From the NHTSA Complaint Page:

Your complaint information will be entered into NHTSA's vehicle owner's complaint database and used with other complaints to determine if a safety-related defect trend exists.

* If a safety-related defect exists in a motor vehicle or item of motor vehicle equipment, the manufacturer must fix it at no cost to the owner. Your complaint is the first step in the process.

* Government engineers analyze the problem. If warranted, the manufacturer is asked to conduct a recall. If the manufacturer does not initiate a recall, the government can order the manufacturer to initiate a recall.

* We do not have to receive a specific number of complaints before we look into a problem. We gather all available information on a problem. Your complaint is important to us.

That's not my car. It's a New Jersey Z3 1.9 with 73k miles on it.

There is a class action developing in Alabama (sticky at the top of this forum) and one in California.

People with the separation are DEFINITELY encouraged to file a complaint with the NHTSA.

As stated on the first page of the complaint form: Your complaint information will be entered into NHTSA's vehicle owner's complaint database and used with other complaints to determine if a safety-related defect trend exists.

We need to document that a defect trend most certainly exists.

The general loose and uncoordinated plan is to let the 2 class action actions develop into whatever they are going to be. Get some cases documented with the NHTSA. Get pictures and cases documented on my website (linked in my sig). Start making bad publicity for BMW by utilizing the press. Once all the car rags (C&D, MT, Automobile, Roundel, etc) all have lil' blurbs in there about this, the publicity machine should take care of itself.

Between lawsuits, the NHTSA, and some horrible pictures/publicity, BMW will hopefully take notice.

Sad as it is... the instant this kills someone, there will be some action.
