 Engine light on again!!!

I reset the light two weeks ago with suggestions here. Came on again, and the dealer says it's the camshaft (maybe they said crankcase) sensor. They have reset the light, and I drove it home, but I sure hope this is solved! I don't want to drive to HC and back with the light on. Any comments and/or suggestions. dealer says it will be approx. $250 to replace the sensor.

you know you have a ligitiamte concern. At least you have some idea what it might be. If it's a sensor I woud replace it .

I've been chasing my engine light too. The thing is it comes on for a matter of hours and then off. In fact, just yesterday it came on and I called the dealer immediately ( i've brought this up before and i get the same answers " we can't assess the problem without the service engine light" I mean come on, apparently these guys just do oil changes.

Anyway, Just when i'm off to the frieaking dealer the f*@#%$ light goes off. I turned around, saving myself 50 bucks, (CPO) went to HMS motorsports.com and bought the fault code tool.-I"LL DISCOVER YOU MYSELF Mr. Engine Light- and when i do i'll share it with all of you.

Later

KC, I had a similiar sensor have problems on my car (it was either the intake or exhaust cam sensor, I can't remember). The symptoms I saw was the car progressively running rougher and rougher. I also had some instances when the car did not start on the first turn of the key (it usually does).

It eventually got so bad I no longer trusted the car to stay running. I took it in to get fixed. Once it was fixed, the car ran smooth as before.

I would recommend you get it fixed before homecoming.

If it is a sensor in intermittent failure mode, replace it before it becomes serious.

While at a track day in Spokane last year, the crankshaft position sensor died on my Roadster. This sensor tells the computer where the crank is in relation to everything else and gives an indication of engine rpm. When it fails, the computer goes on the last known data it had. What this means is that the engine runs correctly at one rpm range and no other. This makes driving extremely frustrating.

When I took it to the Camp BMW in Spokane, they had the part in stock (apparently they fail with regularity) and I was out of there in about an hour.

Find out which sensor it is and replace it!
