Question for our leather experts regarding an eBay item

I found this auction on eBay advertising a recovered Z3 steering wheel. The auction states that the material used is 'alcantara (faux suede)'. Either who did this job is the best job I ever saw in alacantara, or it is not alcantara but a material that can actually stretch a bit.

Opinions are welcome.

Here is the link to the auction:

It looks really good. Real alcantara is about $60 a yard or so. I'd think about it, but I put a momo on mine and don't have the airbag for the stock wheel.

It sure looks nice in the pics!

well, alcantara is a obviously a name brand of faux suede...the difference between it and other brands (from what i've been told) is that it has a thicker backing for UV protection. the upside is that it makes it the most ideal for automotive applications, the downside is that it's supposed to be a pain to work with.

what i'm saying is - yes, that's the best custom alcantara wheel i've seen....if it's actually alcantara brand material. the seller may just be equating "faux suede" with alcantara which isn't necessarily accurate.....

Impossible to know if it is real brand-name Alcantara or one of the equivalent off-brands. Looks real to me as it is not jet black like Ultrasuede.

It does look good in pics. Maybe skipping the padding makes it easier to cover.

Someone should ask him where he got it. Someone should buy it so we can all see it at HC in real life.
