 Rearend Under Surgery, Need Help

Taking the rear end apart prematurely to fix trailing arm.

Got the exhaust down and am looking at the driveshaft removal.

Bentley recommends part # 26 1 040 a "Clamping Sleeve" to remove the driveshaft. Is this a must have or is there something else I can ghetto-rig to work? It's Sunday so BMW is closed, le sigh.

Pull the hand brake on hard so you can loosen the driveshaft bolts. While some may argue this method could damage the differential, don't believe it. It can handle a lot more force than you could put on it with a box wrench.

Suh-weet. I'll give that a try after dinner

Thanks a bunch!

Well, gordon just jammed a big pry bar in there and held the driveshaft still while we used a breaker bar. It worked out nicely. No problems.

Shawn marked each one with a different color marker, so the re-install was super easy.

New question --- Trying to remove parking brake cables - it's stuck on something. I undid the adjustment nuts inside the handbrake and took apart the whole rear assembly, but they will not come out of the guides.

Hrelp?

Edit: Nevermind, whatever machine assmebled the parking brakes on my build jacked up one of the cables and the laminate was all mucked up. It's out.
